Catherine Mayfield has always enjoyed throwing a great event. From personal parties to community events, to corporate events, she has a passion for bringing people together.
Two years ago, she launched her Cedar Falls based company, EventConnect, which provides event planning resources primarily for businesses. The company has hosted three of their "Meeting and Event Planning Expo" tradeshow events in Waterloo and Des Moines with another show scheduled in Cedar Rapids.
Mayfield serves on the Cedar Falls Community Main Street's Organization & Development committee and has led the planning committee for the "Sips in the City" and Upstairs Downtown fundraising events Cedar Falls. Along with that, she has helped coordinate events for the Mill Race community, Cedar Valley Young Professionals, 1 Million Cups and other local organizations.
Last December, Mayfield heard some feedback in the community that it would be nice to have a formal New Year's Eve celebration to attend. After soliciting input from contacts in the community, she decided to move forward on planning a special event like no other currently in the Cedar Valley.
"People liked the idea that it wasn't a fundraiser, it was just a celebration," said Mayfield. "The idea was to plan a night out that would be a truly special experience."
Throughout the planning process, the idea was that this event was a way of giving back to the community. "From the beginning of the planning process, the main goal has always been to put on an amazing event for guests." said Mayfield. "It was never slated to be a moneymaker for my company, in fact it is much more of a risk."
The event includes what Mayfield believes is some of the best of the best. "We've got some of the best entertainment in the area, amazing food, a unique venue, and we are going all out on the venue decoration," said Mayfield. "Hilltop Weddings will be creating a backdrop of gold and champagne that will incorporate manzanita branches, drapery, wildwire candleabras and crystals. Against the wall of windows at the Rotary Reserve, it's going to be beautiful."
Moment in Thyme will cater a selection of hors d'oeuvres and desserts. Checker & the Bluetones & SIRES will provide event entertainment for dancing. Guests will enjoy a champagne toast and Midnight Countdown.
Along with that, the event includes options to really make it a relaxing night. "We've partnered with Hilton Garden Inn to provide an exclusive rate for rooms that includes a shuttle service." shared Mayfield. Other amenities such as the complimentary coat check and an event photographer will be included in the ticket price.
Mayfield hopes to garner some more community support for the event to make it an annual event. "Ideally, we will get some more local companies to sponsor tables for the event to support a celebration like this. The goal would be to make this an annual event and to lower the ticket prices with the help of sponsorships," she said.
